Startup PR Checklist (Part 2)

Part 2, the big reveal:

So you’ve hung out your shingle. Great job! Pat yourself on your back for getting the foundational work done. How are you planning on communicating with your potential customers?

1) Begin developing content

SEO is content driven. No, we don’t recommend stringing together a bunch of keywords and calling it an article, but instead create images, infographics or articles that will be relevant to your target audience.

2) Start having conversations

Look for influencers, potential customers and partners who would have an interest in your business. Identify what they are talking about think about it relates to your brand message.

Don’t fit a square peg in a round hole here. This is certainly not the time to be salesy, but really leverage your brand’s personality to your advantage.

3) Identify recurring touchpoints.

Whether via social media or your blog or newsletter (or all of the above) you need to be consistent with your messaging. What are the 3 or four takeaways that you want your customers to know about you? How easy are your points to remember and what are you using to reinforce them?

Hopefully these steps have given you some food for thought as you create a foundation for the initial communications for your business. Identify your key messages are critical to referral generation and word of mouth marketing.
